Waikato BOP scored two goals in the final few minutes to earn a 2-2 draw with Central and get their 2013 ASB Women’s League campaign underway with a share of the points.
Jane Barnett gave Central the lead in the 21st minute before Rhonda Bridges doubled their advantage just after half time. Central were heading for the win before Kylie Jens pulled one back in the 88th minute and Olivia Williams completed the comeback in injury time.
After the match WaiBOP Football’s head coach, Simon Mead, was honest in his appraisal of his side’s performance. “We didn’t play well so I’m pleased we managed to get a point, even though we probably didn’t deserve it,” said Mead. “We’ve got a bit to work on at training this week and I’m sure we’ll put in a much improved performance this weekend.”
WaiBOP host Capital Football this coming Sunday at St Peter’s College in Cambridge. Kick-off is at 1pm.
