Auckland City continued its defence of the ASB Youth League title with a 3-1 victory over Bay SportsMed WaiBOP United at Kiwitea Street, Auckland. The young Navy Blues scored two goals inside a blistering first 15 minutes through Tinashe Marowa then Moses Dyer.
Bay SportsMed WaiBOP United struggled to gain a foothold in the match during the first half and when Stephen Ashby-Peckham nudged Auckland further ahead five minutes into the second half, the game looked up.
But United’s Adam Luque had other ideas and had the home side on the scoreboard a minute later.
“We got caught on the counter a couple of times early in the match, which was disappointing, and didn’t play as well as we’d have like during the first half,” said Graeme Kinney, Bay SportsMed WaiBOP United’s manager. “But we did a much better job after the break and matched what is a very good Auckland City side.”
The result means Auckland City sit top of the Northern Conference after two rounds while United is still in search of their first victory.
