The Bay SportsMed WaiBOP United Youth Team has beaten Auckland United in their latest ASB Youth League match.
Played at Papakura City’s McLennan Park ground, rather that Auckland United’s usual Mangere Centre Park, we took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to a Dan Goodwin strike and some excellent first half work.
Three goals in a fifteen minute spell during the second half settled the game. Captain Reid Drake along with Jono Viviani scored for WaiBOP United, while the hosts netted once to help keep things interesting.
Coach Paul Drake was delighted with the result as much as the performance. “We deserved that today. The boys played well, we took our chances and brought home the three points,” he said after the match. “We’ve come into a decent run of form and to pick up a solid win away from home is especially pleasing.”
The victory moves WaiBOP United into the top five ahead of this weekend’s match against Canterbury United at Links Ave, Mt Maunganui.
