WaiBOP United was on the end of another close defeat in Christchurch on Sunday, as they pushed in form Canterbury United all the way but came up just short.
Head Coach Peter Smith was pleased and disappointed in equal measure. “I’m pleased that we’re competitive every week and particularly today given we had some guys out,” said Smith after the game. “But we’re here to get results too and I’m disappointed we didn’t take at least a point from the match. The lads deserved that.”
This loss puts a dent in our play-off hopes and we need to get a run of results now to get back in the mix. “We’re still there or there abouts so we’ll keep working hard. With six games still to go pretty much anything can happen. Just look at the Southern result at Fred Taylor Park,” said Smith.
The team now turns its attention to hosting Auckland City. “It will be nice to finally play another game at home, but it doesn’t get any easier with the league leaders set to pay us a visit,” smiled Smith. The match, to be played at John Kerkhof Park, kicks off at 5pm on Saturday January 18.
