WaiBOP United will not appeal points loss
On Thursday December 4 WaiBOP United was officially notified by New Zealand Football that the club fielded an ineligible player – Craig Wylie – in our recent ASB Premiership match against Wanderers SC, and that as a consequence we will forfeit the points won from the match and receive a fine of $2000.
After deliberation the WaiBOP Football Federation board has decided to accept New Zealand Football’s decision and will not appeal the decision. Our considered view is that we believe we would ultimately not win an appeal as New Zealand Football has clearly indicated they will strictly adhere to their regulations.
As such, we have made the difficult decision to draw a line under this episode and move on.
This has been a less than perfect process, however, and there will be learnings for everyone involved.
Again, we appreciate how disappointing this situation is for our supporters and, in particular, the team management and players as they had performed so well on the pitch to gain an excellent result.
