WaiBOP United is pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper, Danyon Drake, ahead of the 2013/14 ASB Premiership season.
Drake currently plays for high-flying Northern Region Football League (NRFL) Division 1 club, Ngaruawahia United. He has been an integral part of a solid Ngaruawahia defensive unit that has been the base of the club’s promotion push.
Still a teenager, Drake has a lot of football under his belt. Along with several years at Ngaruawahia, Drake also had a strong high school career at St Peter’s Cambridge. Drake made three appearances for Waikato FC in the 2011/12 season. He made his senior debut for Taupo AFC in the Waikato Bay of Plenty Federation League at age fifteen.
WaiBOP United Head Coach, Peter Smith, is pleased to have Drake as part of his squad. “Danyon is a local lad and a very promising young goalie,” says Smith. “I’ve watched him several times for Ngaruawahia this season and have been impressed with his development. The fact that he’s been entrusted with the captaincy at Ngaruawahia, a team that’s performing at a good level, says a lot about his character and personality. He’ll be an important part of the WaiBOP United squad.”
