Hundreds of children got the chance to test their football skills at a community day beside Lake Karapiro on Waitangi Day.
For many children, it was their first chance to have a go at football and many went home keen to try the game this winter.
WaiBOP Federation, Cambridge FC and Star Turf Football combined to stage a day of fun games in which children and adults could test themselves, shooting at a radar speed gun (to test kicking strength) and firing shots at an inflatable goal (to test accuracy).
Fifteen children won double sets of adult passes, worth $20 each, to upcoming WaiBOP United games against Waitakere United (February 15) and Team Wellington (February 22).
The community day was organised by the Waipa District Council as the launch event for its celebration of the district’s 150th year.
