After a season where WaiBOP United looked to build a platform for the future through gaining credibility in the performances of both the first team and the youth squad we now turn to face our second season in the ASB Premiership.
The coaching staff held a very thorough technical review of the 2013/14 season with input from both the staff and players. The review document was presented to the WaiBOP United board and productive discussions have been held about to taking the club to the next natural level.
Head Coach Peter Smith has already been re-appointed for the 2014/15 season and is working to assemble his coaching staff and backroom team for the season ahead. Scouting commenced on the first day of the winter season with Smith attending at least one game per weekend (and four over Easter weekend). A comprehensive scouting programme is in place.
Smith commented: “It’s important to see as many of the local players as possible within their winter club environment, so that’s why I’m out and about as much as possible.” He was quick to say that, “I believe my role is also to support the local clubs to ensure that senior football in the area is in the best possible state. By WaiBoP United and the clubs working together we’ve got half a chance of bringing success to the region.”
Looking ahead, Smith is hoping to announce his coaching staff and backroom team during June.
