Our youth team travels to Kiwitea Street on Saturday to take on the 2014 ASB Youth League favourites, Auckland City, in what will probably be their toughest match of the season.
We began the season with a good showing and took a point from a 1-1 draw with Hawke’s Bay United, but this Saturday’s match will be a step up for the lads. “We expect an extremely tough encounter,” said WaiBOP United’s Youth Team coach, Paul Drake.
“As with their first team, Auckland City leads the way on the field. We’ll show them respect but will also look to play our football, put in a good performance and see what happens. We’ve got some good young players in this squad and Saturday is a great opportunity for them to test themselves against the best.”
Kick-off is at midday at Auckland City’s Kiwitea Street ground. Auckland began their season with a convincing 6-2 victory over Wanderers SC, showing they intend carrying on from where they left off last season.
