The second half of the ASB Premiership season opens with a difficult road trip, our third in succession, to Christchurch to take on Canterbury United.
Head Coach, Peter Smith, is looking forward to the challenge of working through the business end of the season. “We head into the second half of the season on the fringes of the play-off race and the next few weeks will be telling in terms of how the season will play out for us,” he said this week. “The lads have had a decent break over the Christmas period and we’ll be refreshed as we head down to Christchurch to take on a Canterbury United side that looks to be back to their best.”
We defeated Canterbury at Rotorua in the opening match of the season but Smith knows that match will have little bearing on the outcome of this weekend’s fixture. “In Aaron Clapham Canterbury has one of the best players in the league and they’re very difficult to beat at home, as Auckland City and Waitakere United have already found out this season,” he explained. “So we’ll travel down there, look to be well organised and disciplined, and stick to our game plan. If we put in a good performance then hopefully a result will be forthcoming.”
The match kick off at 2pm at ASB Football Park.
