Both our teams are in action on Saturday, but at different venues.
WaiBOP United hosts Team Wellington in our final ASB Premiership match of the season. The game is at John Kerkhof Park at the earlier than usual kick-off time of 12.30pm.
With Team Wellington’s play-off status secure there may appear to be little riding on this weekend’s match but both sides will be determined to end the regular season well. “We want to sign-off with a positive result so we can head into the winter on a high and I’m sure Matt and his team will want the three points as they could very well move Team Wellington into second on the table,” said Smith.
In reviewing the season, Smith suggests it may be ending at the wrong time for his team. “This season has been one heck of a ride for us,” he explained. “Starting a new club from scratch came with many headaches but also, as it turned out, some great moments. We’re finishing reasonably well so it’s a shame we don’t get to carry on for a few more weeks.”
WaiBOP United’s Supporters’ Player of the Year trophy will be presented after the match on Saturday.
The Bay SportsMed Youth Team travels to North Harbour Stadium to take on Wanderers SC. We beat Wanderers in the first round, but with injuries starting to take their toll this will be an extremely challenging fixture.
“A win is important for us if we’re to keep in the hunt for second place in the Northern Conference,” said Paul Drake, our youth team coach. “It’s a very tight race so we have to take the confidence we gained from last week’s draw against Auckland and translate that into another result.”
The youth team game kicks off at 1pm.
