Peter Smith take’s his WaiBOP United squad to Crown Park in Taupo for the latest taste of pre-season action. Our opponents are Napier-based Hawke’s Bay United who got a feel for the venue last Saturday when they played Auckland City.
This match signals the start of an intensive fortnight of preparation for WaiBOP United ahead of their first ASB Premiership match against Canterbury United. Smith says this match comes at the right time for his side and he expects it will be a great test for his players.
“We had a really good weekend up at OFC, the boys worked hard and were asked to take a lot in,” says Smith. “Now we get to put some of our ideas into action. I’ll be able to see what works and what we still need to tweak before we take on Canterbury. We’ll be going into this match to win, which is the mind-set we need to take with us every week, so hopefully we can put on a good show for the locals.”
WaiBOP United’s squad for Saturday includes two players – Mark Jones and Raymond How – who are originally from Taupo.
Kick-off at Crown Park is at 1pm.
WaiBOP United’s final squad for the ASB Premiership season will be announced shortly.
