The Bay SportsMed WaiBOP United Youth Team hits the road twice over the next few days as they look to build on their promising start to the season.
On Waitangi Day they are set to take on a Waitakere United side that sits just one point above us on the table. Waitakere beat us twice during the pre-season but as everyone knows things can be very different when competition points are up for grabs.
Head coach, Paul Drake, has named a strong squad to travel to Fred Taylor Park and is looking forward to his side putting in a good performance. “We’ve picked up a reasonable haul of points so far but we’d like to get another win under out belt before the season enters the second round,” said Drake. “Waitakere will be tough, however, so we’ll have to be on our game and deliver a consistently good performance. The boys are improving so hopefully that’s what we can do.”
Kick-off is at 1pm at Fred Taylor Park, Whenuapai.
There will be no rest for the wicked as the youth team heads in the opposite direction on Sunday for the first game of the second round. We’re scheduled to take on Hawke’s Bay United at Napier’s Bluewater Stadium in a rematch of our opening fixture. That match finished level at 1-1 and the team will be hoping for more in a game that kicks off at 11am.
