WaiBOP United is pleased to announce the signing of Ryan Tinsley, Stephen Hoyle and James Hoyle for the 2015/16 ASB Premiership season.
All three players played their part in helping Napier City Rovers’ win the Central League title and finish runners-up in the ASB Chatham Cup during the 2015 winter season, while Tinsley was also a major player for Hawkes Bay United during last season’s ASB Premiership.
Hailing from Nottingham in England, 21 year old midfielder Tinsley arrived in New Zealand in 2014 and has since been a hit for both Hawkes Bay United and Napier City Rovers. ASB Premiership fans will recognise Tinsley following his productive 2014/15 campaign. He played a key part in Hawkes Bay United’s march to the Grand Final scoring 11 goals in 17 league and play-off matches. This included the Grand Final’s opening goal, from the penalty spot, in a match Hawkes Bay ultimately lost 2-1 to Auckland City.
Brothers Stephen and James Hoyle have both been standout performers for Napier City Rovers during the 2015 winter season. Striker Stephen, 22, proved his mettle during Napier’s cup run with important goals, netting the opener in the semi-final as well as the winning penalty in the shoot-out after the match ended 1-1. He also scored five goals in Napier’s 10-0 Central League victory over Wellington Olympic in mid-July. Midfielder James, still only 19, was equally productive, providing ammunition from midfield for City Rovers’ compelling 2015 strike force.
WaiBOP United Head Coach, Peter Smith, is pleased with the signing of what he believes will be three important players for his side this summer. “We’re starting to piece together an exciting, attacking group of players and our signing of Ryan, Stephen and James signal in no uncertain terms what we’ll be trying to do this summer,” said Smith. “All three bring with them professional experience from back in the UK and success during their time here in New Zealand. I’m looking forward to bringing them into the WaiBOP environment and seeing them perform for us.
“Ryan was one of the ASB Premiership’s standout players last summer so it’s something of a coup for us to have him on board,” said Smith. “We saw what he could do first hand last season, when he scored against us at Rotorua, and the bit of something extra he brings to the field will be important for us and exciting for the fans to watch. Any side would be delighted with a midfielder who can score in double figures and I believe that’s what Ryan can do for us this season.”
Smith also believes the Hoyle brothers will be key performers for his side. “Stephen and James have both got experience in the professional game [Stephen with Barnsley and James with Doncaster Rovers] and are young enough and hungry enough to still have a lot to prove in the game,” says Smith. “They’re coming off an outstanding winter in the superb Napier City Rovers set-up. They’ll bring their ability and confidence to what’s going to be an excellent group of players at WaiBOP United this summer.”
Further player signings will be announced in due course.
