WaiBOP United has tumbled to our second ASB Youth League defeat of the season with leaders, Team Wellington, proving too clinical in this battle between what were the league’s top two sides.
The first half was a real tussle, with both sides probing without causing too much damage. We forced several opportunities from set-pieces, while the hosts found a way to go ahead through Finn Moore ten minutes before the break.
The game’s crucial second goal came only a minute into the second half. Unfortunately for us it was the hosts who struck the game’s decisive blow, through Kwame Norku. That opened the game up as we were required to push on in the hope of taking something from the match, while the hosts looked to pick us off on the break.
Team Wellington made the most of some extra space to effectively seal the game with their third goal, Finn Moore’s second, just before the hour mark. Paul Clout pulled a goal back with 25 minutes left and we had a good period of play straight after, but couldn’t find the second goal.
Jack Imray grabbed Team Wellington’s fourth goal with 20 minutes left and, while we had chances to add to our tally, we couldn’t add to the scoreboard pressure.
With most games being played on Sunday, we now have to wait and see what this defeat does to our league position.
