WaiBOP Football’s ASB Women’s League season has ended on a disappointing note after suffering a heavy defeat in their final league fixture.
The visitors, Northern Football, are regular title challengers in this league, but struggled unexpectedly this season. That was, at least, until this match.
Northern took a 3-0 lead into the break but Ella Golding pulled one back for WaiBOP on the hour mark. The visitors sealed the result once and for all with their fourth goal fifteen minutes later, before two goals inside the final ten minutes completed a tough afternoon for WaiBOP.
WaiBOP coach, Juan Propato, was philosophical after the match. “We had a really good first half of the season, but our last three matches didn’t go according to plan,” he said. “Overall, there were some promising signs. We’ve got some good young players in our region and the ups and downs of this season will have been a great learning experience. Hopefully they can take what they learnt over the last couple of months away to their clubs, have a good winter season, then come back stronger next summer.”
