The opening shots of our pre-season campaign were fired against Hawkes Bay United at Taupo’s Crown Park.
We opened the scoring in the first minute, through Marc Evans, and put in a good first 45 minutes with a side that hadn’t played together before.
The visitors got both their goals after the break, through Hamish Watson, although by that time both coaches had rung the changes.
Of more concern to WaiBOP head coach, Peter Smith, was the loss of striker, Stephen Hoyle, who fractured a cheek bone in a collision with a Hawkes Bay player.
