The WaiBOP United playing squad for the 2013/14 ASB Premiership season is nearing finalisation as they head into a weekend-long training camp at the Oceania Football Confederation’s facilities in Auckland.
WaiBOP United Head Coach, Peter Smith, says this will be an important couple of days for the development of his new squad. “We’ll spend a lot of time on the training pitch over the next couple of days,” says Smith, “but equally as important will be the time we spend together off the pitch. We’ve assembled players from a number of clubs, many of whom don’t really know each other.
“Figuring out what makes everyone tick as a person, as well as a player, will help forge the sort of team culture that should see us through the tough times and make the good times even more special.
“I’m looking forward to being totally immersed in football for the weekend and I think the players are too.”
The squad arrives at the OFC facilities in Auckland this evening for dinner, then will hit the training pitch first thing on Saturday morning. Camp will finish late on Sunday afternoon.
