The new Kopu Bridge replaced the old, one lane Kopu bridge in December 2011 and almost immediately made the Coromandel Peninsula more accessible for the thousands of holiday goers who flock there each summer.
Stories abound of the hours spent sitting in cars waiting to get across the old bridge. It was an essential part of your summer holiday. But we’re glad it’s gone.
Now, there are no such worries as you can speed across the bridge then head either left to Thames and up the rugged west coast of the peninsula, or right which takes you over the Coromandel Range to the white sand beaches of the east coast.
